Subject:  Health, Science, Language Arts

Day 3 Learner Outcomes:

    1.  Students will examine ways to care for teeth.
    2.  Students will examine how to protect teeth.
    3.  Students will recognize important vocabulary.
    4.  Students will formulate three questions about dental health care.

Duration:  30-45 minutes

Materials:  Guest speaker (dentist/assistant), digital camera/film, red plaque tablets, toothbrushes, toothpaste

Technology:  digital camera/film, computer access, printer

Teacher Notes:  Signed AUP Acceptable Use Policy
                         Confirm time with guest speaker.
                             Allow students sufficient time to write questions before the guest speaker arrives.
Procedures:
    1.  Students will write 4 questions for the guest speaker to be collected by the teacher.
    1.  Have a guest speaker from a dental office come to school and give a presentation on how to protect and care for teeth.
    2.  Use a digital camera and take pictures of children after using the tablet treatment for identifying plaque.
    3.  A question and answer session will be held.

Modifications:  Pair students to accommodate different needs.
                         Follow special needs procedures.

Enrichment
    1.  Students will complete brushing chart  to show their brushing habits.
    2.  Work in small groups at the computer site  Dr. Rabbit's No Cavities Clubhouse .

Evaluation/Assessment: Complete rubric for each child.
