Day 5 Learner Outcomes
 

1.  Discuss effective brushing techniques.
2.  Discuss cause and effect of healthy eating.

Duration:  45-60 minutes

Materials:  soda soaked egg from previous lesson, toothpaste, toothbrushes, paper towels, video tape, TV, VCR, computer, projection device, lap top, transparency, overhead, apples, peanut butter, marshmallows, plastic knives, sectional apple slicer

Technology Tools/Courseware:  video tape, TV, VCR, computer with internet access, projection device, lap top, transparency, overhead

Teacher Notes:  Signed AUP Acceptable Use Policy

Procedures:
    1.  Remove, observe and discuss effects of soda on the egg (tooth).
    2.  Discuss proper brushing techniques  and display graphics.
    3.  Brush egg gently with toothpaste.
    4.  Compare results with initial observations and predictions.
    5.  Chart observations and predictions.
    6.  Discuss food choices and their effects on teeth.
    7.  Watch video "The Incredible Ride."
    8.  Create Healthy Snack - Apple Smiles.

Modifications:  Pair students to accommodate different learning styles.
                        Follow Special needs procedures.

Enrichment:  1.  Read the book "Who's Dr. Rabbit?"
                     2.  Make  toothpaste.

Evaluation:  Complete a rubric for each child.
