Materials: Thunder Cake by Patricia Polacco, 1 cup shortening, 1 3/4 cup sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla, 3 eggs, 1 cup cold water and 1/3 cup pureed tomatoes.
Technology Tools/Course work: Internet, Encarta, 1995
Teacher Notes: Permission slips to access the Internet must be obtained from each student according to school's acceptable use policy.
Procedures:
1. Read Thundercake

2. Make "My Grandma's Thunder Cake" as per directions
in the book Thunder

Patricia Polacco.
3. Explore
thunderstorms.
4. Use Encarta,
1995, to create reports about thunderstorms.
Modifications: Have
small groups of students prepare and present a brief thunderstorm program
using Power Point. Check students
Individualized Educational Plan for additional modifications.

The students will create a find-a-word
puzzle using the Internet. The students will share thunderstorm
reports with the class.
