Materials: A Food Journal for each student, 2 blank Food Guide Pyramids for each student, Setting Goals worksheet for each student, Plans for Meeting the Goals worksheet for each student
Technology tools/courseware: Internet computer for each student
Teacher Notes: Each student must have an acceptable use policy on file.
Procedures:
1. Using The Interactive
Food Guide Pyramid , the students will familiarize themselves with the
sections of the Food Pyramid.
2. Hand out blank worksheets of the
Food Pyramid (See Appendix A in the document).
Students will complete the worksheets independently and self-check by going
back on the website.
3. Using information from the Kid's Food website,
lead an oral review of the Food Pyramid
with student volunteers completing a blank Food Pyramid on the board.
4. Using their completed Food Pyramids
and entries (for 1 full day) from their Food Journals, the students will
place their
foods in the appropriate categories on a blank Food Pyramid
(See Appendix A in the document) they have been given.
5. After reviewing their Food Journals,
the students will complete the worksheets, Setting Goals and Plans
for Meeting the Goals
(See Appendix A) to improve their eating habits.
6. For evaluation, the students will draw
the Food Pyramid and label each section with the correct foods and
number of servings.
Modifications:
Review all I. E. P.s and 504s.
Pair special needs students with regular education
students when necessary.
Enrichment Activities:
Students can enter the National USDA website and view the various Food Pyramids from other countries.
For enjoyment, the students can explore the Pyramid Tracker website.
Evaluation/Assessment:
Students will demonstrate
knowledge of the Food Pyramid by completing the Food
Pyramid Test .
