• Students will be familiar with and be able to read The Hershey Milk Chocolate Fractions Book
• Students will know the meanings of division, fraction numerator, denominator, and improper fractions
• Students will be able to recognize fractions
• Students will be able to add fractions
• Students will be able to reduce fractions
• Students will be able to divide fractions
• Students will be able to convert improper fractions
• Students will become familiar with creating a PowerPoint presentation

    3 days / 40 minutes, on going classroom work on powerpoint presentations.

Materials

• Hershey Milk Chocolate Fractions Book, by Jerry Pallotta and Rob Bolster
• Pencil/ Paper
• Dictionary
• Hershey Bars
• Overhead

• Multi media Computer
• Data Projector
• Microsoft Office with Power Point
• Digital Camera

• Take special note for food allergies
• May ask for donation of Hershey Bars
• May ask for subsidized monies for purchase of Hershey Book for each student

1. Teacher will read The Hershey's Milk Chocolate Fractions Book
2. Students will be introduced to fraction vocabulary through out the book
3. Students will use the dictionary to define the vocabulary words throughout the book
4. Teacher will demonstrate what fractions are on the overhead and discuss with the class
5. Each Student will receive a Hershey Milk Chocolate bar
6. Students will examine and discuss the divisions of the Hershey bar
7. Students will break apart Hershey Bar as teacher instructs through the reading of Hershey book
8. Students will follow instructions as read in the Hershey book
9. Students will discuss each fraction formed throughout the book
10. Students will complete fractions worksheet
11. Students will view fraction powerpoint presentation
12. Students will prepare a powerpoint presentation to explain fractions. (best by groups)
13. Students will be given grading criteria and limits for presentations
14. Students will present their powerpoint presentations
