Teacher Notes
- Be prepared with books and other print resources on India in the
event that there is a problem with the Internet connection. This
will allow the students to begin their research and start thinking
about ideas for the folktale they will write. These materials can
also be used as supplemental information in preparing the PowerPoint.
- Note that students will not follow the WebQuest through all the
steps. This lesson only uses steps #1-5 in The Process.
- If students are unfamiliar with or need a refresher on proper
documentation, you may want to do a mini-lesson before beginning the
research.
Procedures
- Discuss how students could learn more about India.
(Library, Internet, interview a native, etc.)
- Introduce the WebQuest on India, My Two Homes, http://www.edina.k12.mn.us/cornelia/teach/webquests/india/india.htm.
- Read the Introduction
together. Discuss how learning about another culture will promote
respect and understanding of other cultures. If students are
unfamiliar with ESL students, discuss what that means. Identify why it
is an asset to have students from India create this WebQuest.
- Assign the Task.
Group students as appropriate for your class. Ideally, there will
be seven groups, each assigned one of the areas of investigation of
India.
- Review the rubric that
will be used to evaluate student work.
- Review the Resources link
together.
- Review the Note-taking Form.
Have students print out enough forms for their group to use while
doing research.
- Demonstrate how to save a picture from the Internet to use in
their presentations.
- Complete research.
Modifications
- Take into account student comfort with technology in assigning
partners or groups.
- Make adaptations to accommodate students' IEPs.
