- Drawing program such as Kid Pix or Microsoft Paint
- Power Point presentation on Indian Folk Art.

Notes:
- Teacher reference sites will be listed for
background on Indian Folk Art
Procedures:
- Background
- Review a short history on Indian Art.
- Define folk art as art work produced by the
average person, rather than by a professional artist.
- View the Power
Point presentation showing samples of folk art from various regions
of India.
- Create a folk artist mask.
- Discuss uses of masks in folk dances and story
telling to represent deities and emotions.
- Review and discuss the mask slides in the power
point presentation.
- Have students take each other's pictures with a
digital camera.
- Load the pictures into the computer and crop
them to get mostly head and shoulders in the shot.
- Import the picture into a drawing program such
as Kid Pix or Microsoft Paint.
- Using the drawing tools, create a mask and
headdress on the student's face.
- Save and print the pictures.
Evaluation: Rubric
Modifications:
- Make necessary adaptations according to student
IEP's.
- If digital cameras are not available, have
students bring pictures from home and scan them into the computer.
Enrichment
Activities:
- Mount the student pictures onto oak tag and tape
them to a ruler. Students take turns acting out the story "One
Grain of Rice," holding the mask picture in front of them as they
speak their parts.
