Learner Outcomes:

• The student will demonstrate proper techniques at a computer station.
• The student will demonstrate the ability to turn on and shut down the computer.
• The student will demonstrate the ability to use the mouse.
• The student will identify the components and functions of the computer station.
• The student will be able to name at least 4 icons located on the desktop.

      Techniques Worksheet
      Hard Copies of the PowerPoint Presentation

Technology Tools:

            Computer Station
            Projection Device
            PowerPoint Disk

Teacher Notes:

• The teacher will become familiar with the materials prior to the presentation.
• The teacher will access the PowerPoint presentation of the computer with the components and its functions.
• The teacher will prepare note cards of the names for the computer components.
• The teacher will make copies of a worksheet to assess the student's knowledge of the computer components: K (Coloring Sheet); 1-2 (Matching Worksheet); 3 (Fill-in-the-blank Worksheet)
• The teacher will monitor students on the computer to ensure on-task behaviors.
• The teacher will access internet usage form for each student.
• The teacher will prepare hard copies of PowerPoint presentation.

• Day 1:    Brainstorm and discuss whole group what the students know about computers.  The teacher will present the proper techniques for a computer station.  The students will demonstrate what they have learned about proper techniques.
• Day 2:    The teacher will present the proper terms for the computer components and functions through a PowerPoint presentation.  The teacher will demonstrate how to turn on and shut down the computer.  The students will practice turning on and shutting down the computer.  The students will complete a worksheet on the names of the computer components and their functions.
• Day 3:    The teacher will discuss the icons located on the desk top.  The teacher will discuss the start icon and its function to locate programs.
• Day 4:  The teacher will demonstrate the mouse functions (click/pointer/cursor on desktop screen).  The student will practice activities using the mouse.  Utilize the site,  http://www.allmixedup.com/point/point.cgi.?start

    Time slots may vary dependent upon the number of computers that are available (computer lab or computers in the classroom).  Peer tutors would be available for special needs students.
