Teddi Learns How to Utilize the Computer with Software

Grade Levels: K-3

Subjects: English Language Arts, Computer Technology, Math,
Social Studies

Learner Outcomes:

The students will demonstrate the ability to use the mouse.
The student will turn on/shut down the computer.
The student will demonstrate the proper procedure for inserting and removing a CD ROM.
The student will demonstrate the ability to run the software program, utilizing the proper procedures.
The student will become proficient in utilizing a CD ROM.

Duration: Five 30-minute blocks

Materials: Appropriate age/level, multi-subject software from
suggested software list

Technology Tools: Computer, software, projection device

Teacher Notes:

The teacher will shut down any computers that are on before the students enter the lab.
The teacher will preview any software that will be utilized within the lesson.
The teacher will make available any software that will be utilized within the lesson.

Procedures:

Day 1: The students will turn on the computers. Those needing assistance will be helped by the teacher or other students. The teacher will review proper care and handling procedures for software. The teacher will demonstrate how to insert/eject a CD. The student will practice inserting/ejecting the CD. With the assistance of a projection device, the teacher will demonstrate how to run the program. The student will be given the opportunity to practice running the program. The student will exit the software program and shut down the computer.
Day 2: Repeat Day 1 except for exiting out of the software program. The student will utilize different software. The student will exit the software program and shut down the computer.

Modifications:

Time slots will vary with each lesson dependent upon availability of computer lab and software. Peer tutors would be available for special needs children.
