Teacher Notes:

    It may be necessary for the teacher to familiarize herself with the icons and their functions prior to presenting the lesson.  The following references would be helpful:  Windows 95 For Dummies by Andy  Rathbone
Microsoft Word 97 Step by Step by Microsoft Press.
 

Procedures:

• The teacher will demonstrate with a projection device how to access the microsoft word processor (left click start, scroll to programs and highlight, left click, highlight microsoft word and left click).
• The teacher will demonstrate the functions of selected icons using the projection device (minimize, maximize, exit icon; file icon - new documents, open existing documents, save, save as,  print, print preview, exit; white folder icon; my documents icon; file icon; printer icon; print preview icon; spell check icon; drawing icon - auto shapes, fill color, line color.   Then the students will follow directions to show knowledge of the tool bar icons.
• The students will spend more time with the drawing icons to incorporate math (drawing triangles, circles, squares, and other geometric figures).

Modifications:

• Time slots will vary according to the computer availability (computer lab versus single computers in the classroom).
• Special needs students expectations would be derived from the IEP.
