    The student will read a fairy tale.
      The student will sing a story - created song to a music pattern that retells the story.
       The student will identify the sequence of the story through an online quiz.
Duration of Lesson:
1 hour

Materials:

Student copies of The Little Red Hen

Technology Tools:
Computer with Internet access
PowerPoint with the verses to the song
Online quiz
TV with video cable or data projector

Teacher Notes:

  • The song is to the tune of "Are You Sleeping?   The song is in the PowerPoint.  However, if it would not work use the link.
  • If using the online quiz, make sure permission forms to use the Internet are on file.
  • A printed version of the quiz is available if it is needed. 
Procedures:
Read The Little Red Hen during guided reading time.
    Read the lyrics to the song through Power Point.  Sing the song.  Sing again putting motions to the lyrics.
    Allow students to take the online quiz.
Modifications:
    Follow special needs procedures.

Enrichment Activities:
Have students create stick puppets or use the purchased kit noted in References and retell the story in small groups.

S = 3 out of the 4 questions answered correctly

U = 1-2 questions answered correctly
