Objective(s)

Students will:

  • formulate conclusions based on calculations and observations 
  • analyze the hypotheses made in lesson one "Scientific Method"
  • evaluate the unit and choose an extended activity, use technology, construct, research, or compare topics related to rocketry and present to the class.

Five class periods

Use of research resources, e.g. the Internet, presentation software

Drawing Conclusions Handout
Evaluation Handout
Extended Activity Handout

Procedure

Teacher will lead class discussion on outcome of rocket launches.  Class should come to a consensus on what factor caused the maximum height.  Students will write a conclusion using Drawing Conclusions Handout.  Students will evaluate the unit using the Evaluation Handout and must choose one Extended Activity Handout from a list to complete.  The extended activity is assigned as homework and students are given one week to complete the assignment.  All students will evaluate other students extended activities using the Extended Activity Rubric and hand in for an additional grade.

Differentiated Instruction

Pair special needs students with an above average student and allow additional time for the extended activity.

Collaboration

Depending upon the extended activity chosen, art teachers and social studies teachers can collaborate.
