Objective(s)

The student will engineer and construct a model of the alternative energy source they selected.

Time Required

One or Two 90 minute class periods

Pre-Requisite Skills

Understanding the different alternative energy sources, cost to construct alternative energy generating facilities, information about assigned country, and mathematical conversions

21st Century Tools (Technology Tools)

Calculator

Instructional Materials

Lesson 4 Model Guidelines, glue, tape, construction paper, poster board, materials that students will bring from home.

Procedure

The student will bring materials from home to construct their models.  Some materials may be provided by the teacher as necessary.  The vocational education teachers may also be involved by allowing students to use scrap materials.  Monitor students closely as they are constructing these models.

Differentiated Instruction

Extra time could be given to work on the model and teacher could provide materials to make the models.  The specifications of the model the students are constructing could be made very general or specific, based on grade level and student ability.  Consult your student's Individualized Education Plan for further modifications.

Collaboration

Vocational education and science and students work in teams to build their models

Author's Comments

Many students will take the models home to work on, which will foster communication with parents or guardians.

21st Century Assessment/Evaluation

The model will be assessed as part of the students presentation and participation.
