Objective(s)
Students will:
- create a PowerPoint presentation from the
information gathered in previous lessons
- share their solution to the global problem
of irresponsible fossil fuel usage
- evaluate peer presentations, justifications, and model
Time Required
Two to Three 90 minute class periods
Pre-Requisite Skills
Knowledge of PowerPoint,
understanding of alternative energy sources, understanding of
geographical location and topography of assigned country
21st Century Tools (Technology Tools)
Computer with LCD projector, PowerPoint
Instructional Materials
Powerpoint guidelines
Alternative Energy Sources PowerPoint, model developed
and constructed by students, PowerPoint developed by students, Product Rubric
Procedure
Day 1-
Model and discuss the attached PowerPoint guidelines in the
Alternative Energy Sources PowerPoint to serve as a
student guide for creating their own PowerPoint presentation. Help students understand the information they will be
expected to convey during their presentation. Give them the Product Rubric so they know how they will be graded and how they will
be evaluating one another. Answer any questions students might have and monitor them as
they develop their presentations. This may take two class periods
depending on student ability.
Day 2-
Students will deliver their presentations on the models they created and
complete the rubric group and self evaluation.
Differentiated Instruction
Consult your student's Individualized
Education Plan for further modifications. A reduced number of
requirements in the presentation could be helpful for lower level
students. Higher level students could be required to have additional
information in their presentations and or models. The lesson could be
easily carried further by requiring students to conduct mock Town Hall
Meetings or Government Hearings to convince their fellow "citizens" that
the alternative energy source they chose will save them from darkness.
Collaboration
Technology, Math, Geography, Speech, and
English
Author's Comments
The
creation of the PowerPoints may take more than one 92 minute period
depending on student's abilities. The students will use the above
attached rubric to evaluate group models and presentations.
21st Century Assessment/Evaluation
The completed instructional materials
listed above will be used as the assessment for this lesson, as well as
the culminating model and presentations that will be completed in
Lessons 4 and 5.
