Objective(s)

Students, acting as an engineering consulting firm, will prepare a final presentation summarizing the work completed on this project.  This presentation will consist of a PowerPoint that will be presented to the class and school administrators.

Time Required

Two 50 minute class periods

Pre-Requisite Skills

Basic PowerPoint skills

21st Century Tools (Technology Tools)

Internet, PowerPoint, digital camera, data projection device

Procedure

DAY 1: Each group will produce a PowerPoint presentation to summarize the results of the entire project. The presentation must include the following items:

  • For lesson 1, image of the class relief map and close-ups of the location of the group's facility
  • For lesson 2, diagram labeled with appropriate measurements of the facility, brief overview of the various calculations required to prepare the construction cost estimate, chart showing Excel calculations
  • For lesson 3, digital picture of the class relief model with the athletic facility in place
  • For lesson 4, address the effects of construction on the watershed
  • In conclusion, address the various aspects of engineering that were included in the unit

DAY 2: Allow 15 minutes for groups to add finishing touches to their presentations. They then present their results to their classmates and invited school administrators.

Differentiated Instruction

English language learners could choose to do a presentation in both English and their native language. Students will be working in collaborative groups with other students of all ability levels.

Collaboration

Students must work effectively in small groups, and groups must interact effectively on the larger class scale.

21st Century Assessment/Evaluation

Groups will present results to the class. A Rubric is included as a separate document.
