TITLE: Reader's Theater in Appalachian

LEARNER OUTCOMES:

The students will be able to create a reader's theater using appalachian
stories written by Cynthia Rylant.

The students will be able to script a story for a reader's theater.

The students will be able to stage a story for a reader's theater.
TIME FRAME: 4-5 sessions approximately 45 minutes
in length
MATERIALS:

Cynthia Rylant books dealing with appalachian life

Computer

Paper

Pencil
TECHNOLOGY TOOLS/COURSEWARE:
PROCEDURES:

Introduce the lesson to the students.

Identify and define what a reader's
theater is.

Discuss with the students how to script,
stage
and read a story for
reader's theater.

Using a short story, demonstrate for the students how to script a story
for a reader's theater.
-
Divide the students into groups of 3-4 and have them select a Cynthia Rylant
story to conduct a reader's theater on.
-
Students will present their reader's theater when they are finished.
MODIFICATIONS:
The teacher will
have to help special needs students with their scripting of the story.
