search for information on colleges in West Virginia.

data about a specific college.

will prepare a written summary of findings.

Teacher Notes:

Students are to use the college that
they wrote to in Lesson 1.

Be sure that the students have a signed
Acceptable Use Policy on file.
-
The teacher needs to be sure to explain
the data sheet and the types of information needed, especially in the school
history section (For example, the date that the school was established,
any name changes throughout time, student growth throughout time, trends
in Major offerings, etc.)
Procedures:
First Period:
-
Review with students the Acceptable
Use Policy for using Internet.
-
Discuss the data collection sheet with
the students.
-
The students are then to go to their
chosen college's web and complete the data sheet.
Second Period:
-
Students continue to search for their
college information.
-
Students will begin to prepare a rough
draft of their written summary.
Third Period:
-
Students will edit rough drafts for
grammar, usage, organization, punctuation, and capitalization errors.
-
Students will type final draft of the
written summary.
-
Students will compile written summaries
into a classroom reference book of colleges.
Modifications:
-
Instruction will be adapted/modified
to meet the needs of students of varying cognitive and motor skill levels.

Peer tutors will be used for instructional
assistance.
Enrichment:
1.
Students may design a brochure for their college.

may give an oral presentation of their college search summary.
