We've Got the Spirit!


Grade Levels:  7-8

Subjects:  Language Arts,  Vocational/ Technical Skills, Visual Arts
 

Learner Outcomes:

  The student will develop list of questions to find out when talking to representatives from colleges.

  The student will learn about the programs of study offered at the various colleges.

  The student will create a pennant for the college of their choice to be displayed during College Day.

Duration of Lesson:  Five 45 minute periods
 

Materials:

  Representatives from various colleges
  Tables/chairs
  Felt
  Glue
  Paper
 

Technology Tools/Courseware

  Multi-media computers
  CorelDraw or Print Shop
   Printer

Procedures:

First Period:

    1.  Students will design a pennant for the college of their choice, using a computer drawing program such as Corel or Print Shop.

Second Period:

    1.  Students will complete computer pennant designs and print them out.

Third Period:

    1.  Students will use felt and glue to create their pennant.  Pennants will be on display for College Day.

Fourth Period:
    1.  Students will talk to at least three college representatives at College Day.

Fifth Period:

    1.  Students will make an oral presentation about their involvement in College Day.
     2. Students will turn in a short written summary of their presentation.

Enrichment Activities:

  Students will prepare a debate using valid data as to why their particular college would be the best to attend.

Evaluation/Assessment:

  College pennants voted on by students/staff
    Written and oral summary of College Day
