Identify basic components of the circulatory system.

DURATION OF LESSON: Three 90 minute class periods  

MATERIALS: 

Internet web sites 
Word processing program 
CD-ROM disc 

TECHNOLOGY TOOLS/COURSEWARE: 

Computer lab with Internet access 
MS Word  
CD-ROM program: "The  Ultimate Human Body 2.0" by DK Publishing, Inc.  

TEACHER NOTES: 

Remind students about how to search the Internet. 
Students should be aware of word processing program. 
Explain how to use CD-ROM program. 

PROCEDURES: 

Day 1:  Teacher will pair students to create a mini research paper on the cardiovascular system.  Directions will be given for accessing specific information on the circulatory system and heart.  Students will begin exploration of these sites in the computer lab. 
Day 2:  Students will continue their fact-finding research at specific Internet sites. 
Day 3:  Using a word processing program, students will compile a 3 to 4 page mini research paper incorporating information drawn from their sites about any aspect of the cardiovascular system. 

MODIFICATIONS: Specific pairings for special needs students may be needed.

CD-ROM program:  "The Ultimate Human Body 2.0" by DK Publishing, Inc. 

EVALUATION/ASSESSMENT:  

Each team's paper will be evaluated by the teacher using the Classroom Assessment List for a research report from Glencoe Health:  Performance Assessment Activities.
