Learner Outcomes:
- Students who are
members of the Renaissance Committee will present background information (resulting
from their research in the first lesson) to students in a different area
of discipline through the use of a power point presentation.
- Students will
create a PowerPoint presentation.
- Students will
write clear and precise directions for playing the games and/or replicated
competition.
- Students will
choose a variety of authentic games or replicated competition to be experienced
during the proposed Renaissance Faire.
- Students from
the Renaissance Committee will coordinate the selection and construction
of the games that will be used for the Faire. Students will write clear and
precise directions for playing the games and/or replicated competition.
Time Frame:
Three 90-minute
class periods (one for the presentation, discussion, and division of designated
jobs; two for creation and preparation)
Materials:
Game handouts/
directions.
Materials to create
games, for example: Wood, 2-liter plastic bottles, broom handles,
construction paper, markers, or whatever else is needed.

Tools and Courseware:
Projector
PowerPoint software
Computer with Internet
access
Teacher Notes:
One class period
will be used for PowerPoint presentation, discussion, selection of games,
and division of designated jobs; the second and third class periods will be
utilized in the actual construction of the games.
A variety of construction
items (including, but not limited to markers, construction paper, plastic
bottles, broom sticks, wood, nails, hammers, nails) will have to be collected.
Coordinate time
when Renaissance Faire Committee can present PowerPoint with cooperating teacher(s).
Additional time
may be needed for the construction of some of the games, so preparation should
begin early.
If students construct
a Jacob's Ladder, it will be necessary implement safety precautions.

Procedures:
1. View PowerPoint
presentation(s).
2. Play one of
the games that has been researched. Critique
the demonstration for clarity of instructions, ease of playing, etc.
3. Discuss the
interdisciplinary cooperation between the committee and this particular
class.
-What games would be chosen?
-Responsibilities of selected students to construct the games
-Designate student responsibilities for construction and setup of games
4. Discuss and
practice games so that the class has a good knowledge of the rules and procedures
in order to teach the Renaissance Faire participants.
5. Set up the games
and all equipment on Faire day.
Modifications:
Students should
be assessed for proficiency by the Shop teacher before handling any power
tools or machines.
If students in
the physical education classes wish to obtain more information and extend
their knowledge, they can do additional research.
Enrichment
Activities:
Have a knowledgeable person demonstrate the choreography
of sword fighting and jousting.
Students could learn to make a Jacob's Ladder.
