Description:  Students will not only acquire knowledge and gain perspective about the Renaissance period but will also have a Renaissance experience, culminating with a cross-curricular faire.  The focus of the exploration will concentrate on the 15th to the mid-17th centuries.  The unit is adaptable and can be easily incorporated with other course material a teacher may be required to cover outside the Renaissance unit. 

Learner Outcomes:

  • Students will gain background knowledge through traditional and technological research; in addition, students will study William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
  • Students will present their research findings through PowerPoint presentations to other subject area classes.
  • Students will learn to work cooperatively with peers and adults to coordinate, organize, and implement all aspects of a Renaissance Faire.
Time Frame:  Depending on which lessons are chosen, the unit is about 15 90-minutes class periods; lessons themselves range from two to ten 90-minute class periods.
