Duration of Lesson: Two forty-five minute sessions
Materials: grid paper, coloring tools, ruler, paper, pencil

Teacher Notes:
Procedures:
1. Review the parts of a line graph.
2. Make students aware/review that the purpose of
a line graph is to show a
change in data over time.
3. Explain to students that they will be graphing
the change in population of their
county.
4. Students will research their population change for their county.
5. Have students collect their data and round off
to the highest place value.
This will make graphing the
information easier.
6. Students will take their data and plot it on
a grid sheet. Using a ruler,
students will draw a continuous
line connecting the plots.
7. Students may use their coloring tools to enhance it.
8. Students will use their data and create a line
graph slide in Power Point.

Modifications: Students with learning difficulties may need to a partner or extra time allotted.
Enrichment Activities: A double line graph comparing two counties may be constructed. Students may use Power Point or Excel to create the graph.
Evaluation/Assessment: Students will be evaluated
on accuracy of their graphs. Use this rubric to
evaluate the lesson.
