Smart about Science/Natural Resources
GRADE:
SUBJECT:
LEARNER OUTCOMES:
- The student will be able to identify
the Career Majors and at least two careers in each major in the Science/Natural
Resources Career Cluster.
DURATION OF TIME:
MATERIALS:
- Handout of Programs of Study
TECHNOLOGY TOOLS:
- Computers for instructor and students
TEACHER NOTES:
- Once you have introduced the students
to the Science/Natural Resources Career Cluster
give them about 20 minutes to search careers on the web in this cluster.
TEACHER PROCEDURES:
- 1. Give each student a handout
on the Programs of Study.
- 2. Using the computer while
the students use their handouts, discuss each of the four Career Majors in
the Science/Natural Resources Cluster.
- 3. The instructor will then
have the students focus on the chart that identifies the career major units
and the recommended electives in each of the career majors. Remind the
students that he/she must choose a Pathway, Professional, Skilled or Entry
level before he/she can decide on his/her courses.
- 4. Answer questions from
students.
- 5. Assign students to computers
and have them search careers on the web. I recommend that you use the
Occupational Outlook Handbook site.
MODIFICATIONS:
- For special education students,
I would present this information in two segments.
- I would also work with each student
individually.
ENRICHMENTS:
WRITING ASSIGNMENT:
- The student will write a one page
description of a career in the Science/Natural Resources
Career Cluster that he/she has researched
on the web and one in which he/she might be interested. This can be
an in-class or a homework assignment.
EVALUATION:
- The teacher will give a short
quiz
on the presentation.
- The student will achieve a minimum
of 76%
