Title: Lesson 5 - Secrets Unlocked

Materials:

Technology/Courseware:

Teacher Notes:
  1. Final exam should be taken from quizzes that have been given each day.  A review should be given the day before to refresh their memories.
  2. Students should have their charts designed before they begin watching the video.  The chart should be kept simple.  On one side they will list the likenesses and on the other side the differences.
  3. Students should have prior knowledge on how to edit their papers.
  4. Final papers should be typed  in the computer lab using microsoft word.
Procedures:
  1. A discussion should take place describing all of the secrets that have unfolded throughout the course of the novel.
  2. Students will complete a worksheet telling all of the secrets the characters have kept.   Worksheet6
  3. Students should find their predictions in their notebooks and compare them to the actual outcomes in the novel.
  4. A final exam is given covering the entire novel.  FinalExam
  5. An accelerated reader test is given in the computer lab.
  6. Students will design their chart for comparing/contrasting movie and book.
  7. Students will watch the movie over a period of three days.
  8. Students will write a rough draft based on their chart.
  9. Students will be given a review of the editing symbols they are to use while editing their paper.
  10. Students will edit their paper with the help of the teacher.
  11. Students will rewrite the final draft of their paper.
  12. Students will be taken to the computer lab to type the final draft of their paper.  This will be done in microsoft word.
  13. Students will enter all relevant information into their notebooks.
  14. Students who chose to do enrichment activities will present their PowerPoint presentations to the class.
  15. Students who chose to do enrichment activities will present their plays to the class.
  16. Students will complete a journal activity telling what impact this novel has had on their lives.
Modifications:
  1. Teachers should modify the lesson as necessary to meet the students' IEP requirements.
  2. Students who need extra help should be given peer tutoring.
  3. Teachers should determine the needs for student assistance based on inclusion and request a special education teacher when needed.
Enrichment Activities:
  1. Students will present their PowerPoint presentations to the class.
  2. Students will present their plays to the class.
  3. Students may review the novel for the teacher.
