  • Powerpoint Slide Show

Teacher Note:
  • Order free pamphlets from American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute.
  • Contact professional personnel (doctor, nurse, or even a physician's assistant).
  • Remind them to bring free literature.
  • Have computer lab ready to view powerpoint presentation.
Procedures:
  • Introduce lesson and have short discussion.
  • Go to computer lab and watch powerpoint slide presentation.
  • While on line research what harm smoking does to the lungs.
  • Research secondhand smoking and its effects.
  • Read testimonials and interviews of actual people who has or had cancer to effect them or their family.
  • Take notes and jot down any questions you would like to have answered.
  • Have health professional to come and give a presentation on lung cancer.
  • Distribute free pamphlets and literature.
  • Have question and answer time.
Modifications: 
  • Make necessary adjustments for students with special needs according to their IEP.
Enrichment Activities:
  • After reading the free literature, write a paper on what you have learned.
  • Give oral summary.
Evaluation/Assessment:
  • Observe students are able to access lab for research purposes.
  • Class discussion before and after professional presentation.
  • Check notes in journal.
