Terrestrial Biomes

Description:    The Terrestrial Biomes Unit is that allows the instructor to cover the general concepts of the terrestrial biomes in an easy fashion that involves the students in both hands-on and interactive activities.

Learner Outcomes:

  1. Students will be able to describe the characteristics of the  major land biomes.
  2. Students will be able to describe the coniferous forest biome and the deciduous forest biome.
  3. Students will be able to describe the major characteristics of the rain forest.
  4. Students will be able to debate the issue of de-forestation of the rain forest.
  5. Students will be able to identify the geographical areas that have rain forests.
  6. Students will be able to identify the people, animals, and plants that live in the rain forest.
  7. The students will construct a model of a biome which will illustrate the various characteristics unique to that biome in order to demonstrate their knowledge of  biomes.
  8. Compare how climates differ between the terrestrial biomes.
  9. Describe the physical features of the biomes.
  10. Locate six terrestrial biomes on a map.
  11. Recognize the various biotic and abiotic factors unique to each biome.
