LEARNER OUTCOMES:  The Student will:

• Work in selected groups and exchange their information on the countries of India and England.
• Be named an expert in their group on one of the categories of research.
• Share information with experts in other groups.
• Bring the information they have collected back to their own groups.
• Use prewriting and drafting strategies (drawing, clustering, brainstrorming, discussion, etc.) to generate topics and plan approaches to writing tasks.
• Use writing strategies to address a specific writing purpose.
• Complete a rough draft with the rest of the students in the class.
• Edit their own writing as well as the writing of others in their group.
• Use Microsoft Word to complete their final report comparing/contrasting India and England.

MATERIALS:

• Information collected from research and library.
• Journals

• Computers
• Microsoft Word

• The social studies teacher will have to work very closely with the language arts teacher on this assignment.
• Students who need a lot of help will need to paired with good students so that they, too, can benefit from this lesson.

• Students will be divided into groups of six..
• Students will go to their groups and exhange information they have found during their research.
• Students will be paired in groups of two and be named experts on certain topics they have researched. The topics are:
1. Culture, customs and language
2. Landforms, vegetation, time zones, and currency
3. Capital cities, major cities, major waterways
• Students will meet with experts from other groups and exchange information they have found.  (One student call collect the data on India, the other England).
• Students will record information in their notebooks.
• Students will bring the information they have gathered back to their groups.
• Students will organize the information they have gathered (outlining, clustering, etc.).
• Using the information they have organized as a group, each student will complete a rough draft comparing/contrasting India and England.
• Students will edit their reports (first with their peers and then with the teacher).
• Students will go to the computer lab and type their papers in Microsoft Word.

• Teachers should modify the lesson as necessary to meet the students' IEP requirements.
• Students who need extra help should be paired in groups with students who are able to help them.
• Teachers should determine the needs for students assistance based on Inclusion and request a special education teacher when needed.
• Teachers should use peer tutoring whenever necessary.

• Students may design a brochure promoting tourism in either India or England.

• Students will be evaluated on how well they work in groups.
• Students will be evaluated on their journals.
• Papers will be evaluated.
