LEARNER OUTCOMES: The student will:
1- demonstrate a knowledge of internet use
2- research a given topic using the Internet
3- develop a monthly budget
4- compare two geographic regions based on economics
5- students will orally share their Internet and budget findings

DURATION OF LESSON: 2-40 minute class periods

MATERIALS: Newspapers classified sections from various regions, Piggy Budget worksheet

TECHNOLOGY TOOLS/COURSEWARE: computers with Internet access, calculators

TEACHER NOTES: This lesson can be taught using newspapers or online access to newspapers (U.S. Newspapers),
(World Newspapers).

PROCEDURES:
1- Supply students with the Piggy Budget worksheet and discuss budgeting.
2- Students will select their local region and a region of their choice to compare the costs of living.
3- Students use Piggy Budget worksheet to develop a budget using newspapers or on-line newspapers.
4- Students will present orally their comparisons of regions chosen.

MODIFICATIONS: oral reading of instructions and worksheets as needed, peer tutoring, small group interaction, extended time on assignments.

ENRICHMENT ACTIVITY: Invite a local realtor to come into the classroom as a guest speaker.

EVALUATION/ASSESSMENT: oral presentation, budget worksheet
