LEARNER OUTCOMES: The Student

DURATION OF LESSON: 1-40 minute class period
MATERIALS: checkbooks created in lesson one using Creating a Checkbook ,calculators (optional)
TECHNOLOGY TOOLS/COURSEWARE: Calculators (optional), computer with PowerPoint to access Writing a Piggy Check
TEACHER NOTES: Each teacher will develop their own situations for check writing in procedure two and beginning balance in procedure three
PROCEDURES:
1 Use PowerPoint Writing a
Piggy Check to instruct the class on the proper way to write a check and
record the check in a ledger.
2 Give students five bills
that they will have to pay using checks, students will then log these in
their ledgers.
3 Given a beginning balance
students will use ledger entries to calculate current balance.
MODIFICATIONS: use calculators as needed, oral reading as needed, peer tutoring
ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES: Incorporate this activity as part of the classroom weekly bank from Lesson 1.
EVALUATION/ASSESSMENT: written checks, ledger entries and balance
