Copies of the Gettysburg Address, Pencil/Pen and Paper.

Procedures:

Using the Internet, students will
visit The Gettysburg
Address at the Library of Congress to silently read the speech and
view the web site.

Using copies of the speech, student
volunteers will read aloud different sections of the speech.

Working in pairs students will
use context clues to determine and list the meaning of words and phrases
after each section is read aloud.
-
Working in pairs, students will
write one sentence descriptions for each of the following: a)
summary of the speech, b) main idea of the speech, c) intention of the
author, and d) reason for present-day regard of the speech.

Student pairs will orally present
their findings to the whole class for discussion.
Modifications:
Modifications will be made based on those listed in student's IEP.
Enrichment Activities:
Students will be divided into two teams, Confederate and Union, and will
debate the reasons for supporting their side.

Written analysis and oral presentation.
