The students will:
1. Research an important historical figure using the Internet.
2. Write a research paper using a word processing program and an
online dictionary/encyclopedia.
Duration: 5 - 45 minute class periods
Materials: Computer with Internet access.
Technology Tools: Computer with Internet access.
Procedure:
Days 1-5: There are many
important, historical figures in Johnny Tremain. Johnny is
a friend or associate of many of them. Other important figures are
mentioned in the book. In order to strengthen students' knowledge
of the importance of these figures, have the students research one of the
following:
John
Adams
Samuel
Adams
John Hancock
James Otis
Paul Revere
Dr. Joseph
Warren
General
Gage
Josiah
Quincy
King George
III
The students will research each figure and then write a paper using a word processing program. They may also use an encyclopedia or dictionary.
Modifications: IEP specifications
will be followed.
Lower level students may create a picture, brochure, or other visual representation
of the information
they have gathered if their reading/writing skills prevent them from writing
a research paper.
Enrichment: Students may develop an alternate means of presenting the information they have gathered, such as role-playing, costumed speech, audio-visual presentation, Power Point presentation, etc.
Assessment: Completion
of research paper using correct sentence structure, punctuation, usage,
and grammar.
