Students will utilize the internet.

Students will utilize the word
processor to create and edit examples of the different types of poetry.

Students will use reference materials
such as the thesaurus, rhyming dictionary, dictionary, etc.

Students will develop a PowerPoint
presentation with a minimum of 5 slides depicting the 5 examples of poetry.
Duration of Lesson: Four
45-minute blocks
Materials:

Student packets

Pencil/paper

Reference materials if the internet
is not accessible.

Digital Camera Disk

Computer with internet access

Printer

3.5 Floppy Disk

Clip art disk
Teacher Notes:
-
The teacher will gather student
packets.
-
The teacher will monitor internet
access of the students.

Materials (binders, stapler, construction
paper, etc.) needs to be accessible to students for their final product.
Procedures:
-
Students will receive their packets
with the rough drafts and art work.
-
Utilizing the word processor,
the students will type, edit, and print their 5 examples of poetry.
-
Students will finish other art
from previous lessons that illustrate their poetry.
-
Students will assemble their finished
5 examples of poetry with illustrations.
-
Students will create and print
invitations for the Poetry Party.
-
The teacher will collect booklets
from students.
Modifications:
-
If computers are not available,
students will have to write their poetry.
-
If computers are not available,
students will provide an overhead presentation of the examples of poetry.
-
For grades 3 & 4, parents
or 5th & 6th grade students will assist with the word processor and
PowerPoint presentation.
Enrichment Activities:
Students may decorate their booklet covers.
Students finishing early may create more than one type of poem.
