Learner Outcomes:

• The students will develop and improve communication skills.
• The students will demonstrate a mastery of computer technology skills (keyboarding, PowerPoint).
• The students will cite an understanding of the 5 types of poetry.
• The students will cite an understanding of proper etiquette during their presentations and poetry party.

    Two 45-minute blocks; One 60 to 90-minute block

Materials:

• Student made booklets
• PowerPoint disks
• Refreshments coordinating with the theme of poetry

• Computer/monitor
• PowerPoint disks
• TV
• Digital camera
• Camcorder

• The teacher with class assistance will choose the theme for the Poetry Party.
• Communicate with parents and volunteers to coordinate the Poetry Party - setting up and cleaning up.  (For example:  Garden Party with veggies/fruit/drinks.)
• The teacher will review packets for presentations.
• The teacher will review PowerPoint presentations.
• The teacher will design an agenda/program for the Poetry Party.

• DAY 1:    This will provide practice for presentations (individual booklets, PowerPoint, and illustrations)
• DAY 2:    Practice presentation for another grade/class.
• DAY 3:    Poetry Party - Have fun . . . be creative!

        For grades 3 & 4, utilize peer tutoring to assist with the presentations.
        Special accommodations will be made for special needs children.

Enrichment Activities:

• Publish a poetry booklet that includes all publications/presentations.
• Sharing of booklets/video of Poetry Party (library, parents, Partners in Education, Board members)
• Submit Poetry for Poetry Contests/Publication @ http://www.poetryteachers.com/yankeefib.html
• Submit Poetry for publication @ http://www.veeceet.com/
