Teacher Notes:
Days 1-4
- Students will view Fairy Tale Characters Power Point; discuss puppets- types and uses
- Students will discuss the fairy tale they are writing in language class and that they will be creating stick puppets to use as characters for a puppet show; students may use the characters created in language class on the computer
- Students will use oak tag or poster board to draw their characters' faces while viewing a cartooning video (I use HOW TO DRAW...Blitz Cartoons). If students drew their character in language class, have them draw along with the video in their sketchbook.
- Students view Crayola's How to Create Drama Dolls; log in; if page does not display, select go back to crayola type drama dolls in search box and enter; follow directions. Crayola's Magic Wardrobe may be used to create clothing for female characters.
Days 5-6
- Discuss what forms they will be using in their creature
- Form creature with crayola model magic or another clay, remind students to carve for texture and features
- Air dry, paint
Days 7-10
- Students will use a shoe box to create a stick puppet theatre; log in; if page does not display, select go back to crayola, type stick puppet theatre in the search box, enter; follow directions.
- Draw in background and color (if drawing a castle, view crayola's castle creator)
- Add props - trees, fence, etc
- Rehearse story with puppets and creature
Day 11
- Students will record fairy tales with video camera
Day 12
- View video tape of student produced fairy tales, critique
