Learner Outcomes:

Students will identify the Food Guide Pyramid and the number
of servings needed from each food group.

Students will name foods that belong to each group.

Students will create a wall size food guide pyramid as a
whole group project.
Time Frame: Two class
periods. (45 minutes each)

hopscotch pyramid marked on the floor

empty pyramid marked on the wall

grocery store sale papers

Procedures:

Present the interactive Power
Point presentation to students to introduce the Food Guide Pyramid.

Class discussion and review of food groups.
-
Students get examples of specific foods in each group.
-
Play Pyramid Hopscotch--mark off a pyramid on the floor with
tape.
-
Ask students to jump from group box to group box on the same
foot, naming a food that belongs in each group. They may not repeat a food
that has already been named.
-
Using magazines and grocery store sale papers, allow students
to cut foods from all food groups to be attached to a large empty pyramid
on the wall.
Modifications: Depending
on disability and IEP, assignments may be adjusted using cooperative grouping.
Enrichment Activities:
Can go to Dole-5-A-Day site to
play games on food groups.
Evaluation/Assessment:
By observation and class participation.
