Learner Outcomes:

Students will research a food at the Dole-5-A-Day
web site to find the food's origin and other interesting facts.

Students will plot the food's origin on a map.
-
Students will type a report on their findings and create
an illustration to accompany it.
Time Frame: Two class
periods. (45 minutes each)
Materials:

Bookmark Dole-5-A-Day.

Hang large map of the world in classroom.
Procedures:
-
Ask students to use the Dole-5-A-Day
site to research a food that they have not tried before.
-
They will be looking for these items: why is the food healthy,
interesting or little known facts about the food, where the food is grown
and how it is used in that country.
-
Write a one page report on their findings using Creative
Writer or any other word processing program that is available and also
create an illustration to go with the report using the Paint program.
-
They may use these in a display in the cafeteria.
-
Plot location of foods on a wall map of the world.
Modifications:
-
Depending on disability and IEP, shorten the writing assignment
and allow student(s) to work cooperatively with others;
-
additional time on written or typed assignments.
Enrichment Activities:
Establish Keypals with students
from a school in the country that grows their researched food.
Evaluation/Assessment:

By observation and class participation.
