Procedures:

Introduction
  1. Teacher will assign each student a copy of A Wrinkle In Time.
  2. Students will begin reading each assigned chapter. As each chapter is completed, students will write a summary of events for each chapter, create two questions that they do not know the answer to, and draw a picture of the most important scene in each chapter to keep in a binder or folder.
  3. Folders or binders will be kept by the student to turn in after each section test, and finally at the end of the book, for a grade.

Section Tests

  1. Students will be required to learn vocabulary words for each section of chapters for a vocabulary and comprehension test.
  2. Students will be required to look up the words in a dictionary and to create a sentence using each word correctly.
  3. Vocabulary words are broken into sections by chapters 1-4, chapters 5-8, and chapters 9-13.
  4. Students will finally take the Accelerated Reader Test for a final reading grade if available or a teacher created test.

 Projects

  1. Teacher will assign a Bloom’s Taxonomy project list using each on of his thinking tiers.
  2. Students will be required to choose two out of the three projects from each of the category rows. The points listed in each row are assigned to each project. These projects encourage creativity, so there is not a lot of structure to each of them, so that you as the teacher can see what each of the students can create on their own.
  3. Projects should be assigned with the start of the book to allow for plenty of time to complete. Allow class time to complete, and it works well with students who complete assignments early.

Modifications:

  1. Students may complete certain projects and activities with partners.
  2. Students may illustrate more and have minimal writing, to explain.
  3. Students may only complete 1 project from each row.
  4. Students may need to read the story orally instead of silently.

Enrichment Activities:

  1. Students may complete mini-research projects on time travel or Einstein.
  2. Students may complete the Madeleine L’Engle series.

Evaluation/Assessment:

Students will be graded on participation, testing (comprehension and vocabulary), and completion of projects.
