A Wrinkle in Time 2

Lesson 5: Time Capsule

Grade Level: 6

Subjects: Language Arts,  Art  

Learner Outcomes:

  1. Students will learn to summarize a story.
  2. Students will think critically about a selection.
Duration of Lesson: One ninety minute class period or 2 forty five minute class periods

Materials:

Technology Tools/Courseware: computer with internet access

Teacher Notes: Acceptable use policy.
 
Procedures:

  1. Read the novel.
  2. In advance, have students bring in a Pringles or coffee can.
  3. Have the students measure and cut a piece of paper to fit around the can.
  4. Decorate the can with the book title, author and illustrations.
  5. Students will use a variety of materials/resources to find pictures, items or even words to depict important parts of the story, A Wrinkle in Time.
  6. These items will then be stored in their time capsule.
  7. Each student will do an oral report telling the importance of the item or picture and what it has to do with the story.

Modifications:  Follow individual IEP's, small groups
 
Enrichment Activities:

Create a class time capsule. Have students bring in items or pictures of items that are meaningful to them or depict the current school year. The year this class graduates invite them back to open the time capsule.
