• Students will list routes to travel to reach destinations and estimate mileage.
• Students will list towns and cities passed through while traveling.
• Students will use MapQuest on the internet to find driving directions.

Teacher Notes:

• Check computer consent status
• Reserve computer lab
• Secure maps from  State Departments of Motor Vehicles

1.    Give all students a map, assign a starting point and a destination.  Highlight the route on the map.  Teacher will demonstrate on the overhead projector.
2.    Have students write driving directions to a given destination (including routes and cities passed through and estimate mileage and driving time.
3.    Go to computer lab and get driving directions from MapQuest.
4.    Create a chart on paper or in Microsoft Excel comparing the routes, cities, and mileage collected from the map and the MapQuest driving directions.

• Teacher aids may assist students with reading.
• Shorter distances may be used for some students.

Evaluation/Assessment:    Collect student driving directions and comparison charts.  Points will be awarded for accuracy of information in the chart.
