Procedures:
1. Give all students a map, assign a starting
point and a destination. Highlight the route on the map. Teacher
will demonstrate on the overhead projector.
2. Have students write driving directions to a
given destination (including routes and cities passed through and estimate
mileage and driving time.
3. Go to computer lab and get driving directions
from MapQuest.
4. Create a chart on paper or in Microsoft Excel
comparing the routes, cities, and mileage collected from the map and the
MapQuest driving directions.
Modifications:
-
Teacher aids may assist students with reading.

Shorter distances may be used for some students.
Enrichment Activities: Some students
may produce a scenic route, giving locations of parks or attractions within
a few miles of proposed route.
Evaluation/Assessment: Collect
student driving directions and comparison charts. Points will be
awarded for accuracy of information in the chart.
