Teacher Notes:
This lesson is for a one-computer classroom. Conduct several readings of
The Three Little Pigs. There are several versions of the story.
Choose the version the class wishes to act out with puppets. Take pictures
during the making of the spoon puppets. Continue taking photos during
the class dramatization of The Three Little Pigs.
Procedures:
1. After
several readings of The Three Little Pigs, create the characters
as spoon puppets.
2.
Distribute glue bottles and one spoon per student.
3.
Students should be grouped in fours. One student will make a wolf puppet
and the remaining three will make pig puppets. Each student will
receive two googlie eyes and one pompom to glue to the convex side of the
spoon. This will become the puppet's face.
4.
Distribute materials for ears, mouths, and clothes (fur, felt, and fabric
scraps).
5.
Give the groups of four time to practice their version of The Three Little
Pigs. Then let each group perform in front of the digital video camera
to be played back on the projector TV.
Modifications:
The
teacher and/or kindergarten aide will encourage all students to participate.
Students that require assistance will be helped to ensure successful completion
of the lesson.
Enrichment activities:
Students
can make three wolves and one pig to perform a reenactment of The Three
Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig.
Students
will make a stage and/or the houses for the reenactment.
Make
a Venn diagram comparing story versions.
Read
a condensed version of The Three Little Pigs from the Internet and answer
the questions.
Evaluation/Assessment:
1. Consider the craftsmanship
and details of the puppets.
2. Consider how well
the groups cooperated and collaborated with each other during their puppet
shows.
3. Consider how close
the students' stories were to the original. Were the students creative
in their own version?
4. Record assessment
on Student Checklist form.
