Learner Outcomes: Students will be given
the opportunity to:

Learn proper techniques for conducting an interview,
and use the techniques to interview a veteran

Create a PowerPoint slide show about the veteran
which includes audio and graphics

Use a word processor to write an invitation
Duration of Lesson: (5) 45 minutes periods
Materials:
Technology Tools/Courseware:

computer with Microsoft PowerPoint (or other
presentation software) and word processing software

Teacher Notes: The teacher should assign the
interview 1-2 weeks prior to the PowerPoint activity. The teacher may wish
to contact the local VFW to get names of veterans willing to be interviewed.
(This would insure all students are able to complete the interview assignment.)
Procedures:
-
Students will question family members and neighbors
as to any involvement in military service, then complete and return the
Veteran's
Information Sheet.

The teacher will lead a classroom discussion
using the steps outlined in How to Conduct
an Interview to create a sample student-developed interview form.

Students will conduct an audiotaped interview
of at least one veteran, and use the interview information to create a
PowerPoint presentation on that veteran, including photos, audio and graphics.

Using a word processor, students will create
invitations for veterans and family members to attend the school's Veteran's
Day Celebration.
Modifications: Modifications should be based
on students' IEP and utilization of support staff
Enrichment Activities:

Students can volunteer to help with the Veteran's
Day Celebration or perform community service at the local American Legion
or Veteran's Hospital.

Students can send an E-card
to a veteran.

Invite veterans into the classroom as guest
speakers.
