Student will be able to develop and present a powerpoint on the dangers
of tobacco use.
Duration: 2 - 43 minute periods
Materials:
computer disks for each student
paper and pencil

It
can be checked out at the Marion County Health Department.
It
may also be available at your state library or local library.
Acceptable
use policy must be signed for all participating students.
Procedure: 43 minutes
1.
Show the students the Tobacco is Whacko powerpoint
and discuss some of the questions presented.
2.
Have students write down four facts about tobacco that they would like
to present in powerpoint.
3.
Using the projection device, show students how to develop a powerpoint
with the following requirements.
Procedure: 43 minutes
1.
Have all students present their powerpoint.
2.
Use the rubric for assessment as students do
their presentation.
Modifications:
Make
special adjustments for students with special needs according to their
IEP.
Students
with IEP may require shortened assignments or may use peer tutoring.
Enrichment:
Add
special effects to the powerpoint such as sound and animation.
Show
the video Up in Smoke
Have
students design a poster or pamphlet on the dangers of tobacco use and
display in the library.
Evaluation/Assessment:
Use a rubric to assess the powerpoint presentation.
