The student will:
    1. Become familiar with electronic database programs.
    2. Define classification fields on the database that pertain to Civil War battles in WV.
    3. Sort data by field or classification.
    4. Draw conclusions about WV Civil War battles based on their database information
Duration of Lesson: 2 class periods

Technology Tools/Courseware: Computer with Internet access and browser, database program

Procedures:

Modifications:
  • After researching and completing given fields, students can add additional fields or modify the existing database.
  • Handouts on blue paper for visually impaired.
  • Cooperative pairing.
  • Aides for special needs students
  • Enrichment Activities:
  • Take students on a field trip to Civil War reenactment
  • Research other states in the North or South in a similar manner to make comparisons
  • Evaluation/Assessment:
  • Completed database tutorial and student made databases.
  • Map with battle locations.
