Guided Research Questions
(to be placed in your portfolio)


  1. Find out approximately how many of each type of honeybee live in a hive.
  2. Find out how warm the honeybees keep their hive.
  3. Find out approximately how many beekeepers are working in the United States.
  4. Find out how far away the bees can go to find nectar and approximately how much honey 1 honeybee can produce in her lifetime.
  5. Find out how much of our own food supply is pollinated by honeybees and what percentage of the wild hives have been wiped out by human activities or the varroa mites.


     Take notes on the data you learn from these questions.  Write down any interesting facts you would like to share with the class.  Be sure to list the address where you found the answer.  Give credit to the author, if you can find that person's name, but always list the address for people who might want more information.  Listing the address is also a way to give credit to the person who has studied and worked to create this site.
     Put these notes into your portfolio under lesson 3, "Swarming."
