Sweet Excursions

Title: Sweet Excursions
Grade Level: 7

Subject: Math, Science, Language Arts, Social Studies

Learner Outcomes: Students will display the knowledge they have gained in their study of chocolate by participating in a festival.

Time Frame: 1 week

Materials: Students will request necessary materials for the booth display one week in advance, in order for the teacher to acquire materials not supplied by the students.

Technology Tools/Courseware:
computers with Internet access, Office 97 or other software with word processing program and multimedia presentation package (Power Point)

Teacher Notes: Students will follow directions set forth in procedures and submit a materials list to the teacher one week prior to the festival. They will also need to submit their Product Planner (teacher should print one for each group) one day before the festival is held.

Procedures:
1. Each of you will chose a partner to form a company.
2. Your company will develop and market a chocolate product.

• The product will be on display at the Chocolate Festival.
• The product must be edible.
• The product must have chocolate as an ingredient.
• You must have small samples of your product for the festival attendees to try.
• You must keep your product within the budget of your company.
• Your product must have a wrapper for display. However, the samples should not be individually wrapped.

• The booth should relate to the name of your product.
• The booth must be assembled within 20 minutes.
• The booth must be no wider than 5 ft. (1.2 m), no higher than 8 ft. (2.4m), and no further than 4 ft. (1.2,) from front to back.
• Everything that you need to construct your booth you must bring with you on the day of the festival. No borrowing!
• Your booth must have a company representative in it or near it during the entire festival.
• The booth must be taken home that day! It cannot be left at school.

• The marketing will include a song, slogan, and commercial.
• The judges will ask you to perform your commercial.
• If costumes are a part of your commercial, make sure that you are in costume before your 20 minutes of set-up time runs out.

• Scoring will be done as a team.
• You and your partner will receive the same score.
• You do not have the option of working alone.
• Hand in your three page Product Planner the day before the festival. This will be considered as part of your score.
