Materials: Computer, computer
software listed below, examples of travel brochures,
Optional materials: Encyclopedias, paper, markers, scissors, crayons, colored
pencils,
magazines,
Technology Tools/Courseware: Microsoft
Publisher and/or Word ( word processor)
Microsoft Encarta 98 and/or Virtual Globe
PowerPoint (optional)
Internet Browser
Teacher Notes: The students should
have knowledge of the monuments before beginning this
lesson. They have been covered in previous lessons in this
unit.
Procedures: Choose 3-4 member teams
to work on the project.
1. Students will decide as a group which monuments they would like to include
in their brochure. Each
brochure must include at least 3 different sites.
2. Gather necessary information – pictures, articles, email sites, books,
etc.
They will do the necessary research to include to following information:
a. Brief history – one paragraph in length
b. location
c. hours of operation
d. Admission (if applicable)
e. Capacity (length of possible wait)
3. Prepare a rough draft of their brochure They must organize
the information
acquired and record the information on a word processor.
After that they
will put the information in brochure
form using Microsoft Publisher.
4. Peer Edit – share their brochure with another group to find possible
mistakes or
additional information can be added.
5. Proofread brochure to locate all possible spelling and grammar errors.
6. Prepare the final copy.
7. After the brochures are finished they will be shared with others
by being
placed in the library and/or their classrooms.
Modification: Lower level students
may dictate sentences to the teacher. They may choose
to do a poster instead of a travel brochure.
Enrichment Activities: May do a single
3 page travel brochure on a given monument.
They might do a Power Point Presentation.
Evaluation/Assessment: Use a rubric
to grade the required elements
