Lesson Two:
"Dippin" with the Dolphins"

Students will give an oral slide presentation to the class and their
parents.

Students will use the Internet to research facts about sea animals.

Students will write poems about their sea animals.

Students will convert their research information about their sea animal
into a slide presentation.

Students will use desktop publishing to create invitations inviting
parents to attend their slide presentations.
Duration of the Lesson: Three or Four 45-minutes

of the Blue Dolphins
Technology Tools /Courseware: Internet, slide
presentation software
Teachers Notes:

If the teacher does not have access to slide presentation software,
the students can make oral presentations using poster boards for illustrations.

Teachers may visit our website to view or present the "Devilfish" Power
Point presentation. (The "Devilfish" is one of the sea animals named in
the novel.)

The students will use desktop publishing software to create invitations
inviting parents to attend slide presentations.

If the teacher does not have access to desktop publishing software,
the students can create their own invitations.

Students will continue to work on comprehension questions, summaries,
morning activities, and vocabulary assignment daily.
Procedure:

The students will make a list naming all of the animals and birds in
the novel.

The students will observe as the teacher presents "The
Devilfish" slide presentationand introduces scientific terminology.

The students will choose a partner and select an animal or bird to research.
-
The students will use their sea animal
guidelines to compile research information in the following five areas:
Animal photograph and name, Physical Characteristics, Habitat, Predator/Prey,
and Poem.

The students will convert research information into a slide presentation.

The students will create invitations using desktop publishing to invite
parents to attend their slide presentations. The presentations will take
place in lesson five during the Culminating
Activity.
Modification:

Exceptional children may require more time and possibly need a teacher’s
aide for assistance during this activity.

Students' lessons will be modified according to their IEP specifications.
Enrichment Activity:

Students may go on a field trip to an aquatics center.
