     (This is to be saved until the end of the lesson.)

2.  Students will draw their forest animal on graphing paper.

3.  Students will number each of the dominate points.

4.  Students will determine x and y coordinates for each point. These points
      are to be recorded on a sheet of paper.

5.  Students are to turn the T1-73 calculator on and clear the home screen.

6.  Press the [LIST] button.

7.  Use the arrow keys to move the cursor to the first unnamed list.  Press [ENTER].

9.  Repeat steps 7 and 8 to name a list “Y”.

10.  Use the arrow keys to move the cursor into the first blank line of line "X".  Enter
       the first X coordinate fromthe graph.  Continue by entering the remaining X
       coordinates.  Do the same with the Y coordinates.

12.  Press the [WINDOW] button.  Use this function to set-up the graphing window.
       Look at the graph paper anddetermine the axis settings (minimum x value,
       maximum x value, scale of the x axis, minimum y value,  maximum  y value,
       scale of the y axis). If you are using the graphing paper provided, enter the values
       listed below into the calculator.  Do NOT change the Delta X setting.  It changes
       automatically as the window settings are changed.

                               WINDOW
                                Xmin=  0
                                Xmax=  14
                                X= .1489361702… (changes automatically)
                                Xscl= 1
                                Ymin= 0
                                Ymax= 19

ERROR MESSAGES AND OTHER PROBLEMS

A DIM MISMATCH error occurs when the number of X values is not equal to the number of Y values.  The student either entering an extra number into a list or inadvertently deleting a number from a list normally causes this.  The student should check the lists to find the mistake.

A WINDOW RANGE error indicates a problem with the WINDOW settings (STEP 13). This problem is caused when the MIN and MAX values are set to the same number or when the MIN value is greater than the MAX value.

Problems like this are normally caused when the x and y values for a single point are inverted on the lists.  Use the TRACE function to find the values which were entered for the point, then change them on the lists.

22.  Students will present their haiku and calculator graphing to the class.
