Title:  Who were the Framers of the Constitution? 

Grade Level:  5, 6

Subjects:  Social Studies, Language Arts, Technology

Learner Outcomes:
    1.   The learner will understand how members of the Constitutional Convention might have felt as they began to write a Constitution for our new country.
    2.   The learner will gain information about the Framers of our Constitution.

Duration of Lesson:
    Part A:  one class period
    Part B:  30 minutes Internet time per student

Materials:  Meet the Framers worksheet
                Envelopes containing 1 die, 12 paper clips, and the following rhymed instructions
                                    It's time to play a little game,
                                    No two groups will play the same,
                                    What and how is up to you,
                                    The group must choose what it will do.

                                    Use the things that you find here,
                                    It won't take long, you need not fear,
                                    In six short minutes you'll share your fame,
                                    By telling how you played your game.

Technology Tools/Courseware:  Internet

Procedures:
    1.    Part A:  Teacher will follow game procedure as written in The Constitution Game web site.

    2.    Part B:  Teacher and students will view the picture of the delegates to the Constitutional Convention.

    3.  After discussion about who they might be, students will be directed to The Founding Fathers  - Delegates to the Constitutional Convention site.  Each student will select one delegate and find the information about him requested on the Meet the Framers form.

    4.  Students will share information.

Modification:  as indicated by IEP's

Enrichment Activities:
    1.  Make a cut-out poster of your Framer.  Decorate around the hole for the face to create a likeness of the framer.  Looking through the hole, student can give information about this Framer.

    2.  Students write a dialogue or short play simulating the discussions that might have gone on between the Framers.

Evaluation:  active, constructive participation in game; correctly completed worksheet; correct use of Internet
