Duration of Lesson: 2 days (45 minutes each)
Materials:

Pix or other draw program

Pix slide show

Multimedia computer with a microphone
and speakers

Teacher Notes:

Arrange room so students can work
in groups of 3

Assign group so that there is a
strong, medium, and slower reader

Discuss rules for working in groups
-
Assign roles of leader, writer,
checker
Procedures:
Day 1:
-
In groups of 3 read a legend chosen
by group
-
In groups make a list of 5 events
needed to retell the story on a story board
-
Retell story to each other using
these events
-
Each student chooses 2 events from
the story board (The title page will be considered
one of the events to make six)
Day 2:

Cut apart the story
board made in the group, mix up the parts, and retell the story
-
Using the events on the story
board draw pictures with Kid Pix
or other draw program
-
Turn pictures into a Kid
Pix slide show recording the retelling to match the pictures
-
Share slide show using projection
device with class
Modifications:
-
Use tape recordings of legends for
nonreaders
-
Work in groups no larger than 3
-
If draw program isn't available
make a mural of events to retell story to class
-
A Power Point presentation can also
be used with voice recording and written sentences
Enrichment Activities:

Have students write a play retelling
the legend

Make a radio retelling including
sound effects

to share with the class.
